Terms of Service

Welcome to Bunkmate. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Bunkmate website and services (the “Service”), operated from Montreal, Canada. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What Bunkmate is

Bunkmate is an online marketplace that connects travellers with hospitality businesses (hostels, hotels, lodges and similar) offering work exchange, volunteer, internship and paid opportunities. Bunkmate is a platform only — we are not the employer, host, or party to any arrangement made between travellers and properties, and we do not guarantee any placement, payment, accommodation, or conduct.

2. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information and for keeping your password secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.

3. Directory & unclaimed listings

Some property profiles are unclaimed directory listings compiled from publicly available information to help travellers discover opportunities. Such listings are clearly marked as unclaimed. If you represent a listed property, you may claim its profile. If you believe a listing is inaccurate or should be removed, contact us and we will address it promptly.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• post false, misleading, discriminatory, or unlawful content;
• harass, abuse, or harm another person;
• scrape, harvest, or misuse data from the Service;
• circumvent fees, security, or access controls;
• use the Service for spam or unsolicited communications.

5. Content you provide

You retain ownership of content you submit (profiles, listings, messages, photos). You grant Bunkmate a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, display and use that content to operate and promote the Service. You are responsible for your content and that you have the rights to it.

6. Payments & subscriptions

Paid features (such as Hostel Pro) are billed through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices, trials and renewal terms are shown at checkout. You can manage or cancel a subscription from your billing settings. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that listings are accurate, that opportunities are legitimate, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. You are responsible for verifying any opportunity and complying with local laws (including immigration, work, and visa requirements) before acting on it.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bunkmate is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from arrangements made between users. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm the community.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the applicable laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
